Chapwani Private Island is the ideal spot for those looking for a quiet lodge with good food on a stunning beach with Stone Town and all its facilities just 15 minutes away by boat.

There are only five bandas with a total of ten rooms located right on the beach. The rooms are not large but they are comfortable, with an airy bathroom and separate toilet. They are decorated with vibrant African prints and furnished with traditional local furniture and four poster beds.

The restaurant, situated on the water's edge, offers a unique mixture of Oriental, African and European cuisine using local ingredients fresh from the market.

The island is about 800 metres long and 200 metres wide and is surrounded by small coves with white sandy beaches and coral reefs. The thick lush vegetation of baobabs, palm trees and passion fruits, harbours a small historic graveyard and rich wild-life including a herd of indigenous Duiker Chapwani (miniature antelopes).

The size of the island, the few guests (maximum 20) and the choice of small coves means that each person can find total privacy.

Accommodation at Chapwani Private Island
The bungalows are positioned in-between the baobab, coconut palm and mangrove trees growing on the beachfront. There are five semi-detached, thatched bungalows set right on the beach, offering a total of 10 rooms.

The rooms are very simply furnished with Zanzibari decor. Each one has a four-poster bed with mozzie net, ceiling fan and a small Zanzibari writing desk. Shelves were added recently.

The en-suite bathrooms are attractive but unusual and consist of an oval-shaped sunken bath (no bath plugs though) with a hand shower. The addition of solar heating has thankfully made hot water available. However, please be sparing with water when showering. There is no fresh water available on the island so all the water you use has to be shipped in from the mainland.
